Step by step

  1. Notice signs of young caring

    Tiredness, missing activities, anxiety, taking on adult tasks.

  2. Ask school to help

    Request a pastoral check-in, homework flexibility, and a young carer lead if available.

  3. Refer to Young Carers

    A young person, parent or guardian, teacher, health professional or social worker can use the Young Carer referral form. Northamptonshire Carers completes an individual assessment before agreeing suitable support.

  4. Protect time and space

    Help siblings keep clubs/friends; schedule short breaks where safe.
