Blue Badge for disabled children & young people (North & West Northants)

A Blue Badge lets you park closer to where you need to go. This guide covers who qualifies for a child's badge. Some children qualify automatically. Others are assessed case by case, which is called the discretionary route. The guide also gives local application links, the evidence you usually need, and the fees.

Step by step

  1. Who qualifies automatically

Automatic eligibility includes: registered blind; high rate mobility component of DLA; PIP with 8+ points for 'moving around' activity or 10 points for 'planning and following journeys' (overwhelming psychological distress); war pensioner mobility supplement. Discretionary routes include 'cannot walk' or 'considerable difficulty walking' and hidden disabilities.

  2. Children under 3

May qualify if they need to travel with bulky medical equipment, or need to be close to a vehicle for urgent treatment. Evidence from a GP/hospital is helpful.

  3. Apply locally (West Northants)

Apply online; there is a £10 fee. Email: bluebadge@westnorthants.gov.uk or phone: 0300 126 1000. Support is available via the council contact centre or library appointments.

  4. Apply locally (North Northants)

Apply online; there is a £10 fee. Email bluebadge@northnorthants.gov.uk or call 0300 126 3000 (Mon–Fri, 9am–5pm) and ask for the Blue Badge Team. Fastest route is online via GOV.UK. Their page lists automatic criteria and what evidence to include.

  5. National route (backup)

You can also start via GOV.UK's Blue Badge application service; it will route you to your council.
